About the Study

Pillowcases used during normal home use were swabbed and cultured on agar plates by an independent laboratory. The tested enVy® COPPER-infused pillowcases demonstrated substantially reduced bacterial growth compared with the conventional pillowcase tested.

Can Copper-Infused Fabric Help Reduce Inflammatory Signalling?

Laboratory research suggests it may.

Inflammation is part of the body’s natural immune response. But researchers are also investigating how copper-infused textiles may influence the cellular pathways involved in inflammation.

In a 2023 peer-reviewed laboratory study, researchers exposed human macrophages—immune cells involved in inflammatory response—to media conditioned by copper-infused fabrics.

They found reductions in several inflammatory signals, including TNF-α, IL-1β and IFN-β, along with reduced activation of two key inflammatory pathways, NF-κB and IRF3.

Why this matters:
These findings suggest that copper-infused textiles may have biological activity beyond their well-established antimicrobial properties—providing another area of scientific interest for textiles designed for prolonged skin contact.

This was an in vitro laboratory study, not a human clinical trial. Further clinical research is needed.

The enVy COPPER process uses an active ingredient in the form of copper ions bonded to fabric as a thin continuous film, with the source being derived from common copper salts which are EPA and Health Canada registered and having a long history of safe use across multiple industries and applications.  In addition, per formally adjudicated cytotoxic studies, the topical use of copper is demonstrated not to penetrate the skin barrier.  Non-aqueous forms of copper (such as copper-ion bonded to fabric as a dry thin film) would be expected to have the lowest risk.

Unlike a surface coating applied only to the outside of a finished textile, enVy® COPPER Technology uses a proprietary infusion process based on bath immersion technology. This allows copper to become integrated throughout the natural silk fibre matrix while preserving the softness, breathability, moisture management and luxurious feel of premium Mulberry silk.

Does the copper wash out over time?

enVy® COPPER Technology is designed for durable performance through repeated washing when the product is cared for as directed. Because the copper is integrated within the textile rather than applied only as a temporary surface coating, it is intended to remain part of the finished fabric over time.

Is enVy® COPPER safe for skin contact?

enVy® COPPER Technology is designed for prolonged contact with skin during normal sleep. It uses copper ions derived from registered copper salts and does not rely on copper nanoparticles. Supporting safety information includes cytotoxicity testing and research indicating that textile-bound copper does not penetrate deeply through the skin barrier under the tested conditions.

Does enVy® COPPER Technology use nanoparticles?

No. enVy® COPPER Technology does not use copper nanoparticles. Our proprietary Canadian-developed infusion process integrates copper into the textile without relying on nanoparticle coatings or copper-bearing polyester yarns.
